Another Trip Round the Sun

AND SO ENDS THE LAST – AVILA BEACH, Ca
Avila Beach, Ca

Since the average person only gets about 76 of em… trips round the sun that is… I always wonder why we would waste even a portion of one. But… you know how it is… we get sold an idea like… making a short term sacrifice for a long term gain and we end up putting off the fun. Just remember that YOU are your retirement planners retirement plan.

Surprise… Surprise…

Kaanapali Beac Rainbow

My Brother and I paid a surprise vist to our Mom on Maui Thanksgiving week to make her a SURPRISE Thanksgiving dinner. The Turkey (cooked by my Bro) came out great.

Over the years we’ve become well acquainted with… and rather fond of Uncle Dale at the Kaanapali Beach Hotel. In addition to being a genuinely great guy… he is the undisputed Mai-Tai Master of this planet.

The following picture was taken AFTER enjoying a few of his liquid ministrations. If not for our formidable Irish heritage… well… let’s just say that this picture would have had to have been composed as a landscape.

Beer Heaven

Boneyard Brewing Co

Bend, Oregon is beer heaven… and it’s also a pretty cool town. It’s home to twenty eight (and growing) craft breweries, the Deschutes rolls right through the middle of town, there’s really, really good mtn biking pedaling distance from the brews, and the Mt Bachelor ski area is just about 30 minutes away. Too bad it has real winters.

For better or worse I took a job in Ca for a week and that meant that for the first time in months we actually had to be somewhere on a specific date… man, talk about pressure. Which meant that we couldn’t spend as much time in Bend as twenty eight breweries requires… so we did what damage we could… and promised ourselves that we’d pull a Douglas MacArthur and come back to finish what we started. My personal fave… so far anyway was Boneyard RPM… one of THE BEST beers I’ve tasted!

An Adventure Inside of an Adventure

SUNSET OVER CHAIN LAKES
Chain Lakes Washington

Roaming the southern Cascades we crossed paths with our old friend Mark who we spent the better part of May travelling with. And this turned out to be highly fortuitous for us because almost exactly as we ran into him the alternator on my truck went kaput. More…

IN THE RAIN FOREST
Rain forest in the Cascades

Every forest that we’ve been to has been so different and the Cascades are no exception. We’ve been through soooo many dry forests in the last few months that it was great to be immersed in the lushness of this place… although the locals kept telling us how dry it was.
