It’s been hot (100+) the last couple of days and life here congregates in the shade of the plaza when it’s hot. Music… conversations… food… it’s a lively scene. Wyatt asked me why the parks in America are so empty during the day. Different priorities was my answer.
There are two full time shoeshiners here in the plaza. I found it surprising that our kids had never seen a shoeshiner before.
We sat enjoying our ice cream cones… which takes some focus in 100 degree heat. These two gentleman obviously knew each other. And when he sat in the chair for a shine… not having shoes with leather that can be shined… well, I was curious.
We all watched as the shiner first brushed the shoes. Then rinsed them. Brushed them again. And finished them with a wipe of a towel.
We contemplated sending Wyatt over for a foot washing… but not wanting to cause an environmental crisis… we decided against it.
We used to say Jealously is a cruel thing, but checking your blogs for the first time in a few months is awesome, refreshing, and frankly jealous …looks like tons of fun. The last time I saw Tim was tipping a few glasses at Steins downtown MV…nice to see a good friend after he’s been on the road the better part of a year, we chatted with some guy who claimed he could really play tennis too and talked about life, and tennis, and what’s really important. That was like several months ago, and then Sunday this guy Greg SMS’s me “hey remember you said you’d hit tennis balls any time? I can hit any time after 4PM today.” Even though I’d already played and won three sets of dubs early Sunday morning, I remembered Greg was kind of a construction contractor, sports and workout nut all rolled into one, so I say “sure, meet me at Cuesta ~4PM.”…. I get there a little early and Cuesta gyn rats aka regulars “Te” and “Double D” wave me over to court 4. D was done, but Te had no problem ripping some 90 MPH groundies at me, and when I swung late a left a short ball, hit rip a 60MPH inside through the corner or off the side lines….nice warm up! Greg arrived and introductions all around for a minute and Te bows out and I hit with Greg for about 90 min. What a beast! Lots of pace, plenty of legs into even the short low balls and even when I rip the lefty hook forehand through the corner, Greg chases down even the out balls and slaps them back….anyway, just thought I’d pass on the antidotal story to “Timeteo” (Roberto, now from his Sunnyvale restaurant & no longer at “the Deuce” said to say “Hi!”). Hey Wendy and I will be in AZ for 10 days in June cooking, working, and shooting my nephew’s wedding, will also visit Corky in Flag, but imagine the 18 footed Tim & co family will still be at points further south…Sweatty said he’d gotten a text from you guys, but then today said you weren’t going to be back any time soon…sigh…, nice…have a great time, best education the kids could have.., stay safe and have fun…Love, Mike, Wendy, all the kids, and all the tennis gym rats and other Cuesta assorted characters…
hey I’ve said it before, Tim is one very good writer, and a good photog to boot…nicely done!
Now that’s a comment! Great to hear from you Mike, and great to hear that Cuesta is still… well… Cuesta. Just remember to keep the feet down when you volley… please!?
