Most believe that our sense of time, of a yesterday and a tomorrow… which gives us the ability to “plan”… is one of the things that elevates us over our animal brethren. But it seems obvious to me that… More…
Goin’ South
We drove south from Havasu through Parker and into Phoenix for a couple of days. Visited our friends at Bivouac Trailer… where we got a couple of quick upgrades (it’s a great company and we’re still VERY happy with our purchase), and then we headed down to Tucson… more
Teeth
Our teeth have their own cycle of life… they come in, fall out, come back bigger and better, and finally fall out never to return. I found it ironic… More…
Bye Bye Cali
All told we spent almost four months back in California. It’s been a story of parks, homes, and hotels. More…
Another Trip Round the Sun
AND SO ENDS THE LAST – AVILA BEACH, Ca
Since the average person only gets about 76 of em… trips round the sun that is… I always wonder why we would waste even a portion of one. But… you know how it is… we get sold an idea like… making a short term sacrifice for a long term gain and we end up putting off the fun. Just remember that YOU are your retirement planners retirement plan.
The Superstition of Security
We spent the holidays in San Luis Obispo with our friends and family. Food, beach, pong, more food, checkers, scategories… More…
Surprise… Surprise…
My Brother and I paid a surprise vist to our Mom on Maui Thanksgiving week to make her a SURPRISE Thanksgiving dinner. The Turkey (cooked by my Bro) came out great.
Over the years we’ve become well acquainted with… and rather fond of Uncle Dale at the Kaanapali Beach Hotel. In addition to being a genuinely great guy… he is the undisputed Mai-Tai Master of this planet.
The following picture was taken AFTER enjoying a few of his liquid ministrations. If not for our formidable Irish heritage… well… let’s just say that this picture would have had to have been composed as a landscape.
Beer Heaven
Bend, Oregon is beer heaven… and it’s also a pretty cool town. It’s home to twenty eight (and growing) craft breweries, the Deschutes rolls right through the middle of town, there’s really, really good mtn biking pedaling distance from the brews, and the Mt Bachelor ski area is just about 30 minutes away. Too bad it has real winters.
For better or worse I took a job in Ca for a week and that meant that for the first time in months we actually had to be somewhere on a specific date… man, talk about pressure. Which meant that we couldn’t spend as much time in Bend as twenty eight breweries requires… so we did what damage we could… and promised ourselves that we’d pull a Douglas MacArthur and come back to finish what we started. My personal fave… so far anyway was Boneyard RPM… one of THE BEST beers I’ve tasted!
No Time Like the Present
VIEW FROM THE DARKEST SPOT IN AMERICA
Perhaps I should more accurately say… no time BUT the present. We live in eternity… the eternal present. We have never, nor will we ever experience anything other than the present. I’m pretty sure that we come equipped with that understanding. More…
Change
My Grandfather, whose been dead for nearly thirty years now, grew up before the automobile. Being a farmer and appreciating the benefit of the extra horsepower he eventually made peace with the internal combustion engine… but it was an uneasy alliance. He believed that the invention of the car made the destination more important than the journey. More…
